Little act lights up Hyderabad skies
SHE WENT up into the sky suspended on a balloon and up there she performed tricks that defied gravity. Kirsty Little, especially called in from England to perform during the opening ceremony of Indian Cricket League, bedazzled one and all on an evening filled with entertainment and energy.
The programme took off with as many as 100 drummers, dressed in red, gathering in the centre of the Lal Bahadur Stadium and performing their drills to perfection. No sooner had they finished than ‘fire-eaters’ took centre-stage leaving the spectators enchanted with their pyrotechnics.
But the best was still to come. Renowned choreographer Shaimak Davar’s troupe left one and all in a state of trance with its amazing body movements.
Dressed in bright yellow and red, they signified power and achievement. The troupe members, after dancing to rip- roaring numbers, finally lay on the ground to make a formation — ICL. Now was the time for the cricketers to arrive.
Damien Martyn led his team, Ahmedabad Rockets, into the field and eight other teams followed them in alphabetic order. Once the teams had assembled, it was time for Kirsty Little to enchant the spectators.
Time and again she would descend from the sky, shake hands with cricketers and leave them mesmerised. The starry performances over, it was time for former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, to wax eloquent.
“I would like more private companies to come forward and promote sports,” he said. The second edition of the ICL is well and truly under way.
