How bad is putting gasoline in the oil tank?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I accidentally put the gas in that red container into the oil tank of my moped.

it’s a honda vespa and i’m still learning how to use it. i thought that since gas has oil in it that the thing labeled “oil” meant for gas but now i’m worried that it might hurt the moped. Is it bad? Is there any easy way to fix it? Because I just got it serviced already… please help!

Don’t start it that way, drain all the oil out and replace it with the proper oil.
If you have not started the engine no harm has been done

…………..

gasoline does have a small percentage of oil in it, but it is not good for you to use it for the purposes that you are trying to achieve. at this very moment it isnt hurting it, but i do reccomend that you change asap. if ran for to long with the gasoline in the oil pan the engine wont be getting the lubrication that it needs to run properly meaning that it WILL heat up and if the gasoline does get to hot it will combust causing some bad, bad issues im sure you can understand what might happen.

…………….

Well, i would imagine it wouldn’t be a good scenario, since oil is used to lubricate the engine’s components, and gasoline doesn’t have the same properties.

Looks like your best bet would be to get it serviced again.

……………

oil is NOT gasoline.

Gasoline does not lubricate.
===
Get it flushed out and replace the oil - NOW.

First Moped/Scooter Questions?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Im looking to buy something more fuel efficient because my only car is a Jeep Grand Cherokee which is terrible on gas. rather than trading in my jeep(which i love) for a smaller car i thought maybe it would be better to invest in a scooter or moped. iv never ridden one before so i dont quite know the ins and outs of how to ride one or how to even pick one out. as far as my research has taken me i know that i want at least 150ccs because i plan on taking it on the highway so my questions are:
1. what does 150ccs even mean?
2. how do you ride one? is it just a simple gas and go or is there the whole clutch and switching gears like a motorcycle
3. do you need a special license or need to take any extra training as in getting a drivers license?
4. How reliable are they? do they break down easily or cost tons to repair?
5. Would i be better off trading in my car?

A scooter is a good choice. They have a low center of gravity so they’re easy to handle, and they have automatic transmissions. They are very easy to learn to ride and relatively safe (probably because of they way they’re ridden).

150cc is a good size. Plenty big enough for around town, and enough power to go short trips on the freeway. People have crossed the country on bikes that size, but you’d want to take it easy, it wouldn’t be comfortable (or reliable) to ride 70 mph all day long. 50 maybe.

Any of the Japanese brands are very good quality and reliable. I would beware of Chinese/Taiwanese brands you never heard of before. A good used Japanese scooter would cost about the same and make you happier in the long run.

CCs are the -displacement- of the engine. You know about the piston inside the cylinder. The intake valve opens and the piston goes down, drawing a certain amount of fuel-air mixture into the cylinder. That amount is the displacement. The more displacement, generally the more power, but also a more powerful bike is heavier. A 50cc scooter will go maybe 30-35 mph. A 150cc scooter might go 70 tops but is more comfortable around 55.

You do need a motorcycle license. You get a learner’s permit. With a scooter, you could probably learn to ride it in about 10 minutes, and you would practice a bit in a quiet, residential neighborhood before heading out in to traffic. But really -anyone- can ride one. It’s like a bicycle that you don’t have to pedal.

I use my bike (motorcycle) as my primary form of transportation. I have a car but I only use it when it rains or when I have to carry something big. The bike fills all my ‘personal’ transportation needs very nicely. Of course I live in California where it seldom rains and never snows.

My first bike was a scooter. I ended up taking it on 200 mi. day rides. I had so much fun on that bike! I hope you enjoy yours too!

……………..

I only need to add one thing to the other answer 3 . you DO in fact need a motorcycle license to operate a scooter larger than 50cc. ,anything above that is concidered a mc

……….

  1. 150cc is the size of the engine, your jeep is probably a 4.0 or 5.2 which is 4000cc or 5200cc.
    2. Most of the new scooters are gas and go and there shouldn’t be a clutch, most scooters have a centrifugal clutch that only engages when you give it gas, you don’t engage it yourself.
3.You don’t have to have a special license if you are a licensed driver.
4.They are pretty reliable given that you take care of them like your Grand Cherokee, change the oil, keep air in the tires and don’t run the crap out of it.
5.That is up to you, do you want to ride a scooter?

…………….

Every one has pretty much told you everything except there is nothing wrong with scooters from Taiwan. Kymco’s is made there and they are one of the best rated scooters in the world and they are the largest manufacture of scooter. They have many models and styles from 50cc to 500cc and get mileage from 50 mpg to 110 mpg. I have been a mechanic on them for several years and they almost never break down. Most of the time general maintenance is all that they require. They are much cheaper than your jap scooters. People trade in some of the jap scooters on kymcos because they are so smooth. and yes they are twist and go. Repair parts when accidents happen are more reasonably priced. I have seen insurance agents surprised on what they cost

Car fuse problems!!!!! Help me please?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I had my car (’86′ Mazda 323) fixed a little while ago. I blew the largest fuse the damn thing has, but ever since I have, my auxiliary functions don’t work at all i.e. ceiling lights, dash clock, and sound system won’t even turn on. I thought it was the battery, but I had to get it towed to a shop when the battery wasn’t the problem and it wasn’t even turning over. A simple fuse was blown, and I had it quickly taken care of by professionals and looked at for other problems.
I have a 6 hour commute coming up, and don’t wish to be without music.

PLEASE help me figure out what’s wrong with my car!

Brittany, I was reviewing the wiring diagram for your 86 Mazda 323 and it appears there are 2 main fuses controlling the circuits you are talking about. There are 2 large main fuses one being a 50 amp fuse and the other a 60 amp fuse. I am guessing the garage that repaired your car repaired or replaced those fuses.

I am also noticing there is another fuse block with a 10 amp fuse that controls the circuits you are talking about that do not function. It could be one of two fuses. One being called the meter fuse and the other would be the room fuse. One is fuse number 12 and the other is fuse number 5. This fuse block is located just to the left of your steering wheel under the dash.

One or both of these fuses may be blown. Replace them with 10 amp fuses. If either blows again you have a short circuit that needs to be corrected

……………

double check the other fuses. it is possible to blow a low amp fuse and one of the larger fuses.

Nuts, bolts, and screws join materials together?

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Mechanically, using friction, temporarily. Nuts bolts and screws are mechanical elements that work due to friction, but they can be removed to disassemble what ever you are bolting or screwing together… and sometimes they unscrew them selves due to vibration.

Mechanically. A screw or nut/bolt is an instance of an incline-plane, which is a simple machine.

Mechanically, using friction. The incline plane of the threads allow the materials to be joined, and friction holds the threads in place so the materials are held together.

Car Insurance

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Everyone knows that you can’t drive your car unless you have liability car insurance. Liability coverage protects you should you be at fault in an auto accident. It will pay for the victim’s injuries and property damage, as well as your legal bills. State to state requirements vary regarding the minimum levels of auto liability insurance. When purchasing liability coverage, you should try to cover or exceed the value of your assets such as your home or savings account. This is because if you are sued and you don’t have enough coverage to protect your assets, you could lose money, possessions and even your home.

You can find some valuable information online regarding how to save some money on your home insurance as well. Your deductible is the amount you have to pay towards a loss before your insurance company starts to pay the claim. By raising your deductible you can save more money on your premiums. Most insurance companies recommend a deductible of at least $500. If you can afford to raise your deductible to $1,000, you may save as much as 25 percent. You can also save some money by purchasing your home and auto policies from the same insurer. Some companies will take up to 15 percent off your premium if you buy two or more policies from them.

Travel Packages

Escorted tours are a popular travel option for those looking to enjoy the big picture, and save a few dollars. They are a great value as you can save up to 40% compared to traveling on your own. A personal escort also gives you an opportunity to experience foreign cultures. Not only do you get to see the sights, but you learn about their meaning and history as well which makes for a stimulating and enriching experience. Most travelers enjoy being able to relax hassle free, knowing that all arrangements have been made for you by reliable specialists. Because tour groups are often comprised of travelers from all around the world, they make for an excellent opportunity to meet interesting fellow travelers. Many lasting friendships began on a tour. There are some great travel packages available online such as a 5 day trip to England. On your England vacation you sample the many sites that London has to offer such as Kensington Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and the National Gallery. While London is a wonderful city for walking, it also claims one of the most efficient and convenient public transportation systems in Europe. The underground, or “tube”, traverses the city and makes traveling from one point of interest to the next, effortless. For additional discount travel packages such as this, head online and plan your next vacation.

“aeroplane some times stay stable in one position in the sky”,is possible?

Monday, October 15th, 2007

1. Nope, this is not possible in the conventional airplanes.

However, there are some fighter planes and jets that have this capability to stay (hover) at one position in the sky.

2. obsolutely no

only jet planes and choppers can do that

3. it sure can, and you can even go back wards…. I have done it many times. If you fly a smaller aircraft, and are flying at an airspeed of 50 knots, and you are flying into a head wind at 50 knots… your effective ground speed it ZERO. A few years ago I was “hovering” above the Lincoln NE airport run way… I sat at the same spot, and even was moving backwards, due to my a/c speed was the same or less than the head wind speed. On the larger a/c they fly faster and are more powerful, yet the head wind still reduces their ground speed for the same reason. Now when I turned my a/c around ,my ground speed was well over 150 knots, and I was only at 75% throttle.

4. Yeah, to a certain extent.

Trimmed properly, low altitude, fixed wing aircraft will maintain the last course set by the pilot and maintain altitude and airspeed.

Hands off flying at higher altitudes is better left to the autopilots the more complex aircraft are equipped with. Trying to maintain control of the airplane manually, (hand flying,) above certain altitudes, depending on the aircraft, is a little like trying to balance a postage stamp on the point of a needle.

At lower altitudes, fixed wing aircraft will basically fly themselves as pilots grope around for the chart in the seat back pocket, or use the relief tube, (if you don’t know, you don’t want to,) or concentrate on trying to find an approach plate in a Jepp’s book.

5. It can deffintely be done. During initial flight training it’s called slow flight. This is doen more in smaller aircraft like Cessna’s and Piper’s. You place the aircraft into the wind, flaps fully down. Point the nose up and apply throttle. In perfect conditions you can actually go bacwards in a non-VTOL aircraft/Helicopter. I did this once while earning my pilot’s license with Embry-Riddle down in Daytona Beach Florida. Got a lot of finger’s pointing up at me from the beach when I was “backing” my C172 south along the beach while the nose was pointed north.

6. Yes it can. Have done it many times when I see a bird coming on my way, I just stop and let him go .

7. If a plane flies into a 100 mph wind at airspeed of 100 mph it will appear to have stopped in mid-air relative to someone on the ground

8. well some times if you are moving in a car in the opposite direction of a low level flying aircraft, and between you and the aircraft, and in your filed of vision their is an object like a high building for instance, the air craft would seem like its not moving, eyes plying games…

9. Sure it’s possible. Even possible to go backwards. Fly a hundred knotts airspeed into a hundred fifty knott headwind you’ll go backwards over the ground at fifty knotts.

10. yes and no
no for commercial airliners…use some common sense lol they’re way too big for that
yes, take the Harrier for example. it is a VTOL aircraft..Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft. i’ve seen a documentary on the national geographic channel and the jet engines rotate vertically to propel the plane up.
