Cell phone calls on airplanes in flight are not only unsafe, they’re obnoxious and they should be permanently banned, according to some members of Congress.
House members, most of whom board airplanes almost every week, traded horror stories Thursday about their worst experiences with annoying fellow passengers who talk loudly on cell phones before takeoff and after landing. One lawmaker said his wife sat next to a woman who loudly discussed her sex life on the phone.
Another House member topped that with the passenger sitting him behind on one flight who got a “dear John” phone call from either his wife or sweetheart just before takeoff. The begging and pleading was just terrible to listen to, he said. Finally, with the plane ready to take off, a flight attendant had to threaten to have U.S. Marshals drag the man off the plane before he finally put his phone away.
A third House member raised the specter of national security, saying she’d witnessed one man use his cell phone camera to take pictures of sensitive parts of the airplane.
With that, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved by voice vote a bill that would make the current Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Communication Commission ban on cell phone use during flight permanent.
The committee’s action comes as the European Union is moving to allow airline passengers to talk on their cell phones during flight. Some U.S. airlines are experimenting with in-flight Internet access. And some lawmakers worry that domestic airlines might try to get the cell phone ban lifted so they can charge passengers extra to sit in no-phone sections.
“I do believe this is important that we don’t make what is already a crowded and difficult environment for the traveling public and flight attendants” worse by allowing cell phone use in-flight, said Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., sponsor of the Halting Airplane Noise to Give Us Peace (HANG UP) Act.
But Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., said there are a lot of annoying things on airplanes, including children with dirty diapers and noisy MP3 players, but that doesn’t mean they should be banned.
“You are trying to legislate courtesy, folks, and that just doesn’t work,” Mica said.
when i think of the word “economy” i think of global warming, pollution, crime, abuse,
Economy isn’t a bad word. Its just associated with bad things. The economy is what drives the world, meaning it drives the bad stuff and the good stuff. Take the price of oil, when the price of oil goes up the economy goes down. The economy is directly linked to the stock market and the price of oil rising causes the stock market to decline which frightens people. The frightened people spend less money and when less money is being transferred the value decreases. When the value decreases living conditition detoriorate because people spend less money on less things. The economy is slumping now so everything that is going wrong in the world is pretty much blamed on the economy.
ok im making homemade cookies from the back of the package of hershey choc chips and its kinda runny and tastes like flour what do i do??
Can it be fixed and how plzzz??
i followed the directions and everything!!!???
Refrigerate the dough, before baking. After putting a new batch on the cookie sheet, put the dough back in the fridge.
Put the cooled dough on a completely cooled cookie sheet. I use several at a time, so there is always a sheet that is totally cooled, before I put my next batch of cookie dough on it.
So, use cool dough, on a cool sheet and that will probably solve the problem for you.
——
You may have over mixed it. The butter may have gotten too soft. Try refrigerating it for about 30 minutes. That should firm up the dough. In warmer temps and the heat of a kitchen can do this. Refrigerate for a while then check back with us.
The other day I broke out in a rash all over my body… stomach, back, arms, shoulders, chest, neck… and a little bit on my legs. I have been outside a lot in the sun and I have been wearing spf 30 every time. It doesn’t itch but its little bumps everywhere and they vary in size. I am not taking any medications and I don’t have any food allergies. A friend said it could be heat rash? If so, how long does it take to go away, and are there any good kinds of lotions to speed up the process?
sounds like heat rash. But more than likely you are allergic to the sunscreen and it is not letting the pores of your skin breath. Use Neutrogena - don’t get tan - and see a dermatologist.
…………….
The cause for pimples are many and not only adolescence as
popularly believed. Chronic constipation is one major cause,
the food we eat plays a very important role. You will have
to cut down the fried food, chocolates, cheese and aerated
drinks. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and green vegetables with
a lot of water. Instead of washing the face with soap, use
orange peel powder. Dry Orange peels in the shade for 4-5
days. Powder finely and store. Wash your face with this 2-3
times a day. It clears the face and feels very refreshing.

It could be like sun poisoning or heat rash, but im not sure, i’d definately go to the doctor,
or you could be allergic to your sunscreen like i am, it sucks >.<
It’s in Nevada, where the Gov’t Keeps us all in the DARK about UFOs, Aliens, and Staged Moon-Landings…??.

“Area 51 is a remote tract of land in the southwestern portion of LincolnCounty in southern Nevada in the western United States. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of a large salt lake, is a large military airfield, one of the most secretive places in the world. The base’s primary purpose is to support development and testing of new military aircraft and to analyse foreign aircraft and weapons systems.”
I know that the brain is what really counts. But I was wondering, is it possible to revive a brain and its cells back to life. I mean, the brain is only tissue, its not like some magical thing that shuts off.
Wouldnt it be possible to turn it on if it shut off?
You would have to slow the metabolic processes that occur, to prevent build-up of toxic anaerobic metabolic waste when the brain is deprived of oxygen. Extreme cold could do this, and people have been known to be revived after 15 or 20 minutes without oxygen at cold temperatures - after falling into thin ice while ice-fishing for example. But this is not an indefinite postponement of death, it is merely a short delay. For a long-term delay you would need to cool the tissues to extremely low temperatures. However, due to freezing of water and cellular components themselves, this is not possible. Freezing would permanently disrupt cellular structures and render them non-functional upon thawing.
An alternative future possibility is a chemically induced stoppage of metabolism, but as far as I’m aware this has never been done.
Is there any correlation factor for assessment of odor and other gases from waste water treatement plant in correlation with some parameter of the waste water, for instance such as COD, BOD5 etc. The main gases from WWTP are CH4, N2O, CO, CO2, NH3. I also need distribution in air assesment for these gases.
He was an economist back in the early 19th century who warned of problems of finite resources vs. population growth.
For example,he warned of increasing food supply, but even more increasing population. Do U believe he was right in believing the world is headed for disaster during to the said above, especially with petroleum being the most obvious manifestation of the phenomenon going on?
Yes, I am aware of Thomas Malthus (there’s an “L” in his last name).
Ironic that by modern standards he was from a very large family, isn’t it?
I personally don’t see how humans as a whole are generally so myopic and fail to see how our over population of earth is going to come to a head at some point.
Then I think about the people (for the most part) who are having oodles of children. People from third world countries with little, to zero education. People in first world countries who tend to be on the bottom levels socially, employment wise, and education wise.
If people do not have a view of how the ENTIRE world is, then their world is tiny. It may be no bigger than their family, or their village. How can they possibly know that it’s a problem if they have 8-10 children, and 4-5 of them survive to adult hood? In their mind, it’s great! Someone to take care of them when they get old.
I currently live in Idaho, near a little town of ten thousand people. I’m constantly amazed at how little some of them know about the “outside” world….meaning more than 200 miles from town. For them, their entire world is relationships, squabbles, employment, ect right here within about a 50 mile zone. They don’t THINK further afield than that. To them it doesn’t matter that they produce seven children….there’s always food at WalMart.
I have done polls and such on the internet before. One would assume internet users to be a much more “worldly” crowd.
I’ve asked before what people would do if there was a famine (people actually starving to death) here in the United States. Over and over again, I am simply flabbergasted by the number of people who state something like, “It wouldn’t affect me, I get my food at the grocery store.” Or (this is priceless) “I’d just eat out if the stores didn’t have any food.”
So people in third world countries have a serrious disconect over the fact that there are simply too many humans, and we are running out of resources. People in first world countries have a SERRIOUS disconect over where their resources come from.
Yes, without question I believe the world is headed for a global meltdown. The earth will still be here…and the earth has proven wonderfully able to recover. However at some point humans themselves are going to be pitted against a true peril, which will kill millions.
Unfortunatly, there are so many humans now, and we breed so well, AND are able to stand on the shoulders of humans before us, that I don’t believe the earth will ever be rid of all humans. What I mean by “stand on the shoulders of humans before us,” is that we have the abbility to pass knowledge on. A baby born today does not have to “discover” fire. It can grab a book, and know how to mine coal, or built an oil drilling platform. As we build our knowledge each generation, we also build the damage we do to the earth.
I believe the begining of the end (for current human civilization) will happen with both a famine, and a pandemic.
Famine first, to weaken the population, pandemic next as a disease gains a foothold in a weakend population.
It’s possible, it could happen as soon as 2013, when Ug99 hits China, and all of India and Africa. What will the U.S. do when over 1/2 of the worlds population is facing starvation? What will the 1/2 of the world that is starving do to the U.S.? Remember “stand on the shoulders of humans before us”….we are not the only country who learns…..we are not the only country which is Nuclear capable.
So what exactly would the Chineese Government do if their people were dying of famine and disease? Hint: The Chineese military still teaches their soldiers that “war with the United States is inevitable.” http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

The earth is finite. We live on a bounded sphere.
How can we possibly increase population, use resources and dispose of waste indefinitely in a finite world?
Doesn’t matter how efficient we get. Eventually resources will get used up, the biosphere will collapse under our waste and our population will crash.
There are countless examples of this in the natural world and examples of man himself outstripping his local environment.
Now we are doing it on a global scale.
It’s just simple logic that the Malthus prediction hasn’t come true - because we haven’t reached the limit - yet.
E.O. Wilson calculated the theoretical absolute limit - and it’s 14 billion.
The strain is showing at 6 billion.
At 9 or 10, I believe we will wish we had listened.
The only types of policies that are sold to people at that age are universal life policies to very rich people for the purposes of estate planning. Most companies stop selling normal life insurance policies at ages 80-85.
Aren’t you a little late looking for coverage which should have been purchased at least 25 years ago ? The Insurance companies don’t play Russian Roulette with all chambers of the revolver loaded. They are not stupid.
If not, you can always go to your local Planned Parenthood or health dept clinic for low cost birth control. The amount charged is based on a sliding scale –that is based on how much money you make. Even if you have to pay their full cost– it’s much cheaper than what you would pay in a pharmacy.
